Wrongful Convictions Scotland

Fighting for the Wrongfully Convicted in Scotland

You are not alone.

The British legal system is substantially flawed, the Scottish legal system more so. Unfortunately, most realise this too late. An organisation as a drive for reform was originally intended to be a project for a wrongly convicted inmate but as time went on and he became more aware of the injustices everywhere, it became clear that inmates and families need help and support now and so it was launched quickly and we'll figure out our path as we go.

We are not a legal advocacy group. The appeals system, like much of the rest, is so flawed and stacked against the defendant that the only long term solution is to draw public attention to just how unjust it is and to hold those responsible to account.

In the meantime, if you or a loved one has an upcoming trial, there are things you need to know other than "everything will be fine" - that is a very familiar phrase among those inside. Similarly, if your loved one is having problems inside the prison, we can offer advice and representation. Inmates are often shell shocked upon sentencing and Scottish do seem to play fast and loose with the law unless held to account.

If you are facing jury duty, an understanding of how the courts actually work and an appreciation of the evolving nature of, for example, the Moorov doctrine (nowadays little more than a legal word meaning "there's no smoke without fire") should be understood.

Finally, if you find yourself isolated and just need someone to talk to, we're here to help. One family can be ignored, ten can be dismissed but a hundred families and wellwishers can make a difference.
